Forbes Billionaires List - How Forbes Keeps Track the Wealth of The World's Richest People

We live in a capitalist world. Here only a few people are worth or hold more money than thousands of people combined. People who are worth over 1000 million dollars are officially known as Billionaires. Forbes and Bloomberg are two of the most famous organizations that count and keep track of these Billionaire's wealth. As of the latest Forbes estimate of 2022, officially there are 2668 billionaires in the entire world and combinedly all of them are worth about 12.7 trillion dollars. Most of them are from the United States. 975 of them call The United States their home country. The 2nd and the 3rd country in terms of the resident with the most billionaires are China and India. Currently, at the time of writing this blog, French billionaire Bernard Arnault stands at the very top of the list as the richest person of the world with an estimated net worth of 181.8 billion dollars.

The Stock Market Game

Most of the billionaire's fortune is tied up in their company's stocks. That means if the stock price goes up their net worth increases and if it goes down, they lose money, and their net worth decreases. This is how by estimating the stock prices Forbes initially calculates the wealth owned by many billionaires. Billionaire Elon Musk's net worth hit 306.4 billion in November 2021 because of the continuous rise in the price of his company Tesla's stock. But within just a year, the stock price fell 61% and as a result, Elon lost half of his fortune. Forbes's Real-Time Billionaires ranking tracks the daily ups and downs of the world’s richest people by measuring stock prices.

Forbes 400

Forbes 400 is a magazine published every year around September by Forbes which covers the list of the wealthiest 400 American citizens in detail. In the very first list, published in 1982, there were only 13 billionaires but currently, more than 60% of American billionaires could not put their names to this magazine. An interesting fact is that former US President Donald Trump belongs to this list with an estimated fortune of 3.2 billion dollars.

Youngest Self-made Billionaires

We all know, great things take time but in this modern world of technology, it does not require too much time to build wealth if anyone can bring out an outstanding idea. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates became the first youngest self-made billionaire ever recorded in history in 1987 only at the age of 31 and his net worth was 1.25 billion dollars at that time. Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg broke that record in 2007 when he became the youngest self-made billionaire only at the age of 23. But as we know, records are made to be broken, American supermodel Kylie Jenner became the world's youngest self-made billionaire in 2019 breaking the previous record of the Facebook CEO. She was only 21 years old at the time of being a self-made billionaire.

MIT dropout & a machine learning based startup company named "Scale" founder Alexandr Wang is the youngest self-made billionaire of the year 2022 who is 25 years old.

How many Billionaires in Bangladesh

As of Forbes Estimate, Summit Group's chairman Muhammed Aziz Khan ranks 2458th in the Forbes Real Time Billionaires list and he is the only official billionaire from Bangladesh with an estimated fortune of 1 billion dollars. As a result, Bangladesh is one of the countries with the least billionaires.

Two Mind-blowing Facts

- According to a report by the Oxfam Organization, only the top 26 richest billionaires combinedly own as many assets as the 3.8 billion people combined who make up the poorest half of the world’s population.

- Bill Gates and Warren Buffet started a campaign in 2010 named The Giving Pledge whose goal is to encourage extremely wealthy individuals to donate a majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes. The 2 billionaires are committed to donating 99% of their wealth in their lifetime. 236 billionaires from 28 different countries have signed up to join the campaign till today.
